It has been a crazy few weeks for me with family visiting and finals I have not had a moment to focus. Now things have slowed down and I have started my routine outfit planning and packing for our trip to Hawaii. YAY!
I am so happy to go back home and just relax, in Hawaii just the air relaxes me. Its home, where I truly feel at peace. Not to say we don’t have any fun adventures planned because lets be real… I thrive on being active. My list is designed for the girl who likes to be active as opposed to just sunbathing by the pool all day. I have to snorkel, walk the beaches, surf the waves, and of course eat plenty of guava. As you will see I don’t bring a ton of day clothes because I pretty much live in my swimsuit the whole time. This helps in keeping my bags light for gifts to bring home.
So here is my clothing packing list and recommendations. (I will do a separate post for beauty in the next few days.)
My go to carry-on travel bags:
Samsonite international carry-on hardside spinner suitcase -Perfect size for carry-on.
Tumi Alpha Bravo Lejeune – Seriously get a Tumi, they are the best. Mine is a tote and backpack in one.
Ebags packing cubes – These save space and keep me organized.
Other bags used:
Kipling Georgina backpack- This is my gym bag, outdoor concert bag, and beach bag. It has a large opening so you can see inside without digging into a pit, and a flat bottom perfect for a change on clothes. I got a backpack as a beach bag because it frees my hands up to carry other stuff and keeps me from placing lots of weight on one shoulder. I choose Kipling because they are easy to wipe clean, no fuss, extremely lightweight which is important when packing, and really a great product. Plus, it was in my favorite color.
Louis Vuitton Favorite MM- I save this one for dinners and maybe some shopping at Ala Moana.
Prada Saffiano wallet on a chain- Super durable I have had mine for years. I got it within a week of its arrival and still looks amazing. Fits in my beach bag with my phone inside it, and can be taken out for a quick walk about Front Street or lunch at Dukes.
-16 days total-
Tops Total: 5
3 Tanks- Bring ones you wear running around, over a swimsuit, or parasailing. Keep them simple and light.
2 Tee or blouse- Take your pick based on what you feel your missing in the suitcase.
Bottoms Total: 5 (6 if working out)
2 Skirts- A knit maxi can be worn in ever situation, over a swimsuit with a tank, with a blouse for dinner, with a tee for shopping, and so forth. For my second skirt I do a crochet white knee length to pop against the Hawaiian tan.
2 Shorts- One denim and the other either tan or a pop of color. I live in my Hudson denim shorts, I even got alterations on them to make them my perfect pair. They are worth the money as they last for years.
1 Workout bottom– Only if you plan to actually go to the gym or do some amazing yoga on the beach.
1 Pant– Wide leg or ankle leg in cotton or linen are perfect for the flights or in the room.
Dresses Total: 7
3 Day Dresses- Perfect to throw on for lunch or shopping. My fave is my Lululemon dress, it has mesh vents to let air flow in and out while still looking cute.
4 Night Dresses/Jumpers- Keep them easy and flowy, nothing says tourist then a girl in stilettos and a bodycon dress at a oceanside restaurant. After a long day in the sun your skin will enjoy a soft gentle fabric against it. Think Free People, not BCBG.
Sweaters Total: 2
Undergarments Total: 7
5 Panties- Organic cotton or bamboo feel amazing after a day in a swimsuit and let your skin breathe. Hand wash with gentle soap.
Swimwear Total: 6
5 Swimsuit tops & 5 Swimsuit bottoms– I get mine at Pakaloha when whenever I am on Maui. They are truly amazing and my favorite. They are sporty and hold up in whatever activity you are engaged in, they are all separates so you can mix and match and get different sizes (really important for me!), best of all they are affordable! I have bought VIX, Lspace, etc. and while they are very pretty they are just not made for anything besides standing around the pool with some cute wedges on.
1 One piece swimsuit- I like to always have a one piece with me. Its great for surfing, scuba, or snorkeling.
Accessories & Extras
3 Wristlets– I use these in my beach bag to keep my items separate and hold thing that need to be protected more. Check out TidePoolHawaii for the best selection.
IPad – Full of movies
Sunglasses -MauiJim all the way baby!
Beach Hat – Foldable if possible.
2 Sarongs – Perfect cover ups, hair towels, after shower wraps, etc.
(Don’t bring mags with you, get them at longs drugstore when you arrive. Save yourself the extra weight)
1 Beach flipflop – I swear by Reefs. They last forever and are comfortable.
1 Heel/Wedge – A low thick heel will work great. Even better if metallic gold.
Keep an eye out for the beauty packing list. And always keep wandering plumerias…
