Last weekend we decided to go last minute for a quick beach trip. Since our home is on the gulf side people usually assume we prefer it, but honestly we don’t. James and I love waves and find the gulf beaches near us so congested. For a quick day trip the gulf is easier but for a little getaway we prefer the atlantic side. The drive from our home to Jupiter Beach is about 3.5 hours so we decided to stay overnight. Last minute, dog friendly, and reasonable priced was not super easy but we found a place that didn’t charge us insane amounts for the dogs in Palm Beach just about 30 minutes or less away from Jupiter Beach.
I found a few options for resorts that looked good and we called two before booking.
The Brazilian Court Hotel ($200 Dog Deposit plus $75 a night)
Four Seasons Palm Beach (Dog friendly but didn’t call)
The Tideline Palm Beach ($25 a night, no dog deposit)
We decided on The Tideline as it was the most reasonable priced and had good reviews. For a last minute trip we didn’t want to dip into our later big trip savings.
We used booking.com and got the hotel for a great deal then started packing. We packed a little lunch for the beach, fresh berries, water, and filled our tumblers up with homemade lemonade. On the way to the hotel we stopped at Jupiter beach and spent the afternoon there. We were all very happy to get out of the car.
Jupiter is our favorite beach in Florida so far. We love that we can bring the dogs to play and it isn’t overly crowded. We also like how parking is right next to the beach. No long walk lugging towels and chairs! So far we have never experienced a bad owner or aggressive dog there. Only happy playful dogs have stopped by to visit us.
We got to the hotel in the late afternoon, and had a quick check-in (anyone who has been to the Hilton Hawaiian Village on a Saturday knows why I mention this). The dog friendly rooms are on the ground floor with access to the lawn outside their room. We found the room clean, modern, and simple. This is not a luxury resort but rather a good hotel. Their checkout is at noon which is nice. They also offer beach chairs and umbrellas to hotel guest at no additional charge. The service was good and everyone friendly.
We had dinner at the hotel restaurant Brandon’s. We ordered three rolls of sushi and some drinks. The sushi rolls were 8 pieces… but very small for $18 a roll. The lacked any flavor and were disappointing, even the spicy tuna was bland. When we go back home we get giant rolls for $9-$12 that are so delicious bursting with good flavor that we were bothered to spend so much on lackluster rolls. But then again, we are from California, so we had access to amazing food, so maybe we have a high standard. Would we eat at Brandon’s again? Nope.
The Four Seasons Breakfast
The next morning we walked down the beach to the resort right next door. After the previous nights bland and overpriced dinner we wanted to go somewhere else for breakfast. We never do buffets, so we knew we would just be splitting a regular menu item. We were seated outside overlooking the pool. Our waiter came by and was brief and not conversational. But I saw him talking with the other tables in a far more friendly manner. Maybe because we were the only black couple sitting at the restaurant or he just felt we look too young to matter (I blame James baby face). We ordered the eggs benedict and a small order of pancakes. Let me start with saying this is THE FOUR SEASONS, you tend to expect stellar service, and superb food. We received neither. Our food took forever, while everyone else got their food and were eating around us, we sat there starving and only once heard from our waiter as he finally went to get the food. Even the hostess came by and asked if we had been helped or served yet. The eggs benadict was cold, the potatoes even colder. The pancakes were barely lukewarm. We sent back the pancakes and would have send the eggs back had we not been so hungry and worried we would have to wait another 30 minutes for them. How do you serve cold food at The Four Seasons?? Why was the food just okay and not great? We have had so much better eggs benadict at regular restaurants and breakfast spots. The whole meal took forever, and we left disappointed. How can your server not even try to make the experience better? Had I been paying the high price of staying there and gotten this service, I would have been even more upset. But this has insured that I will not be staying there.
We decided that next trip there we are going to rent a condo so we can make our own food which will undoubtedly be better. We also want to check out The Brazillian Court Hotel for lunch or dinner one day. It is supposed to have a great French restaurant, and the hotel is unique and historic.
Besides the food we had a great trip. It was just what we needed.
